Em’s research focuses on how place-based inequalities and space shape neighborhood and individual outcomes. She is currently fascinated by the variation in health outcomes across the rural-urban gradient. Other research interests include neighborhood crime, Rust Belt immigration, and the unique revitalization strategies being pursued in American cities. Em received her MA and PhD in sociology from the Ohio State University and received a BA in literature and sociology from Ohio Northern University.
